Diamond from Junk Sale to be auctioned at Sotheby’s!

Who would have imagined a diamond to be sold at a junk sale? Well apparently, Sotheby’s latest offering is just that: a diamond purchased originally at a junk sale in London—which is now estimated to fetch up to £350,000! According to Sotheby’s the present owner actually bought the 26-carat, white diamond ring for £10 in the 1980s and wore it while doing shopping and chores, thinking it was costume jewellery!  The diamond is thought to have been cut in the 19th century when the style was to cut to conserve the weight rather than to enhance the brilliance. That perhaps, played a role in people mistaking it for a fake. The owner brought the ring in for valuation after a jeweller told them it could be worth something. To be auctioned on June 7, the ring is a genuine cushion-shaped diamond weighing 26.27 carats with an attractive colour grade of I and impressive clarity grade of VVS2, which is the fourth-highest level of clarity.
