Jaguar XJ220 gets new lease of life on 25th anniversary

Owners of the Jaguar XJ220 introduced in 1992 were hit with a curious tragedy of suddenly not being able to rocket around despite possessing the fastest car created, because they couldn’t find new tyres for the super speedster. Since 12 years now, these cars have been sitting around, becase the production of new rubber for the unique-sized wheels stopped when production of the car itself ceased in 1994.But now, this vehicle with top speeds of 349.3 kilometres per hour has just been given new lease of life as , Bridgestone and Pirelli are developing new tyres for the car and get it back on the track where it belongs. So it might be just a few weeks until this speedster gets back in action—and all this to coincide with the car’s 25th anniversary. To get its tyres right, Bridgestone used a pre-production XJ220 for track tests and picked the brains of many of the engineers that helped develop the original car. Along with these, Jaguar has been working directly with Pirelli on a set of P Zero tyres for the XJ220 with a view to creating P Zeros for a number of its other classics in the future. As such, they will be the only “J-Rated” — Jaguar approved — rubber available for the XJ200.
