Japanese pop art icon Yayoi Kusama to open own museum in Tokyo

Famous Japanese artist and pop-art icon Yayoi Kusama is all set to open her very own museum in Tokyo on October 1, to “present, promote and preserve” Kusama’s art, complete with her infinity rooms and signature polka dotted paintings and sculptures. Housed in a five-storey building in Shinjuku, the Yayoi Kusama Museum museum’s five floors will feature shops, exhibition rooms, an “installation experience” room and a dedicated reading room with archival materials solely dedicated to Kusama. What’s more the museum will also host an inaugural exhibition titled “Creation is a Solitary Pursuit, Love is What Brings You Closer to Art”. Running through February 25, 2018, the museum’s highlights will include previously unseen works from Kusama’s latest painting series, “My Eternal Soul”, as well as creations from her “Love Forever” series. In addition there is also an original art installation created especially for the exhibition.
