Russia’s most expensive diamond, a giant 51.38 carat gem

Renowned Russian miner Alrosa  will soon be putting a collection of diamonds up for auction and that includes a huge 51.38 carat diamond that measures upto 2.5 cm in diameter. The magnificent piece is actually equal in size to the visible portion of the human eye and according to the miner this could even be the most expensive Russian diamond, owing to its quality. It is a 57-facet traditional round brilliant cut diamond with triple excellent cut, D colour, and VVS1 clarity. The collection itself is named the Dynasty collection, being dedicated to and inspired by Tsar Peter the Great—who built the city of St Petersburg and founded the Romanov dynasty, which ruled Russia for 300 years. The collection’s five polished diamonds were crafted by Alrosa’s specialists over the course of a year and a half, from a 179-carat Romanovs rough diamond. This diamond was extracted at one of the company’s mines in Russia’s far eastern Yakutia region in 2015. Other than the colossal 51.38 carat gem, the other stones are as follows: 16.67-carat round-cut diamond, a 5.05-carat oval diamond, a 1.73-carat pear-cut diamond, and a 1.39-carat diamond.
