America’s most expensive cup of coffee can be had at Exraction Lab, a novel coffee shop in New York which offers its special coffee for for $18 a cup. Located in Industry city in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park, the plush café also doubles up as the headquarters of Alpha Dominche, the company behind the fantastic “steampunk” machine, which is an uber luxe full immersion, single-cup semi-automated vacuum brewer. The sleek, several thousand dollar machine is operated by an Android tablet, preset with exact specifications to bring out the best flavor of each coffee or tea, and apparently that’s what makes your java cuppa so good, not to mention so expensive. This sophisticated machine can even be operated via an iPad app and is designed to combine all the elements of drip, French press, and espresso brewing. The previous holder of the title was San Francisco’s Blue Bottle, which sells a cup for $16, but has been trumped by Extraction Lab. Talk about the art of fine coffee brewing!
