Volkswagen begins production of 2017 Passat luxury sedan in India

Indian arm of the German auto giant Volkswagen will now be carrying out the local assembly of its new generation Passat luxury sedan in India, at the Volkswagen Group’s assembly unit in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The eighth generation 2017 Volkswagen Passat, expected to debut in the market in November 2017, will also be the first sedan for the company to be based on the MQB platform in India. The luxury sedan made its global debut in 2014 and the plug-in hybrid – Passat GTE was also showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo.  Featuring a completely new and aggressive design, the 2017 Passat is also lighter by about 80 Kgs and claims to be more spacious. It also features a wheelbase extended by about 79 mm. The new Passat will get a 2.0L TDI, 177 PS engine mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
