Befittingly named ‘Heartthrobs’, this collection of jewellery from Gemporia has gemstones studded right at the centre of the delicately exquisite pieces, and that’s not why they’re called Hearthrobs. It’s because the gemstones actually move in sync with each movement of the wearer—reading your heartbeat, so to speak. At the slightest slight touch, the centre stone starts rotating, as if reminding your loved one of the heart that always beats for them. If this isn’t the perfect gift of love, we don’t know what is!

Myst is a premium food brand that just took the idea of the golden touch to extreme levels, with its extra virgin olive oil that is actually infused with 24 carat edible gold flakes! Bottled in a transparent semi oval vessel sealed with a classic black cap, it also comes in a pure variety of the oil, which will be sold in a similar vessel but with a white top. While the former is Myst-Gold, the latter is Myst-Pure and you get both in 500ml bottles sealed in a tantalising, sleek black case. The bottles will also don the brand’s unique logo engraved in a glossy gold and silver paint. The oil itself is supposedly obtained from supreme quality hand-picked olives, and is ‘a pure blend of herbs imbued with gold’, manufactured by the method of cold extraction at low temperatures, with hygiene being the primary focus. The “extra virgin” label is also an assurance that you are only being served the purest of the pure, sans chemicals or pesticides right from the stage of harvest.

And now begins the age of private travel to the moon. US startup company Moon Express has received approval from the US government to send an unmanned lander to the moon in 2017, in a first for private industry. Moon Express received the green light following in depth consultations with the FAA, the White House, the State Department, NASA and other federal agencies. The trip is estimated to cost $25 million and promises to be the most expensive private travel venture of all time. Moon Express is the first company to seek and receive approval to do business beyond near-Earth orbit. “We are now free to set sail as explorers to Earth’s eighth continent, the moon, seeking new knowledge and resources to expand Earth’s economic sphere for the benefit of all humanity,” stated Bob Richards, co-founder and chief executive of Moon Express. Based in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Moon Express was founded in 2010. It has yet to finish its moon lander (called MX-1), which will be carried in late 2017 by a rocket made by Rocket Lab, another startup. “The sky is not the limit for Moon Express – it is the launchpad,” said  co-founder Naveen Jain, describing the government approval as “another giant leap for humanity.” The company’s goal is to develop low-cost spacecraft and to explore the resources on the moon, he said. “In the immediate future we envision bringing precious resources, metals and moon rocks back to Earth.” What the Moon Express is looking at right now is the Google Lunar X-Prize of $30 million. To win, a private company would have to land a probe on the moon, have it travel at least 500 meters on the lunar surface and transmit HD video from said surface back to Earth. If Moon Express is able to clinch this, they would be getting a 20% return on the initial investment. But that’s not all: the company is also considering providing their services to transport human ashes for $3 million per kilogram. Now that’s really something!

With the Olympics happening in Rio, it’s not just sports getting the glitter. Belmond, together with award-winning Icelandic artist Kristjana S. Williams, have created art on a breath-taking canvas at the Belmond Copacabana Palace. The seven story high hotel now boasts of Williams’ trademark style of Victorian engraving and modern illustration displayed on its façade, including a mesmerising butterfly-themed theatrical light projection that sees dozens of enormous butterflies glide over the luxurious property. This is a 10-minute display, which will run at 7 pm nightly till August 14 for the general public. The butterflies carry different countries’ flags on their wings, symbolizing the unity of nations, even as the fluttering wings themselves stand for hope. Williams also spearheaded another window exhibit behind the hotel, at the Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana. Depicting previous host Olympic cities, the display both honors the spirit of hospitality as well as acts as a gesture of goodwill to the next host: Tokyo. Other artworks include illustrated maps over the reception and concierge desks. Titled ‘Belmond Map of the World’ and ‘Rio Welcomes the World’, they are each handcrafted via interweaving layers of 18th-century engravings, photographs and paintings with contemporary illustrations.
