Ulysse Nardin, the 152 year old Swiss brand renowned for supplying accurate military timepieces to some of the world’ top navies, has unveiled the Marine Torpilleur Military Watch as part of a trio of unique chronometers launched for SIHH 2018. Representing the twin characteristics of high accuracy and strong legibility, this watch is a true marine chronometer with a high precision, state-of-the-art UN-118 in-house movement ensconced within the sand-blasted 44mm steel case. In a nod to the pocket chronometers of sea captains from the 19th and early 20th centuries, the watch features an oversized screwed-down crown and a fluted bezel. It uses Arabic rather numerals, a small seconds track at 6 o’clock, and a stamped caseback, displaying a Torpilleur or destroyer. The watch comes either in eggshell dial with brown leather strap or black dial matched with black leather strap. Each of the options is limited to 300 units, and each one individually numbered.

British designer Lee Broom and iconic glassware brand Nude have collaborated to create the ultimate Christmas tree for Cinderella, apparently! So you have the 10 meter tall ‘Tree of Glass’ composed entirely of 245 hand-blown pendant lights. This Christmas tree is an installation placed inside The Shard in London, inspired by its setting in the triple-storey atrium of the Aqua Shard restaurant on the 31st floor of the Renzo Piano-designed skyscraper. Each of the individual pendant lights were pre-set to their specific height and specifically wired and suspended to create the entire tree. While designing the structure, Lee Broom considered the interior of the Shard and the angles and facets of the building as a whole. The Tree of Glass has been designed so it can be disassembled in the New Year and sold as individual lighting products. All proceeds from their sale will be donated to The British Red Cross, Broom’s chosen charity.

No, this isn’t a chair that can fly. It’s a very creative use of the power of illusion, through which a carpet appears to float while folded into the shape of a chair. Created by Cypriot designer Stelios Mousarris in collaboration with artist Jan Blythe, the secret of this flying carpet chair is a 6mm steel frame designed to be invisible, supporting the Persian carpet. Each of the carpets is bespoke and handmade, each produced meticulously over a period of four months, and priced at €12,000 ($14,089 approximately). Now that is one piece of whimsical furniture perfect for flights of fancy.
