After establishing a presence throughout Singapore and South East Asia, at ART REPUBLIK will spread wings to neighboring shores in Indonesia come August 2016, where a burgeoning art scene has resulted in a land teeming with alternative art spaces and a substantial draw in art investors. Since its inception in 2013, ART REPUBLIK has been a welcoming and all-embracing platform for art aficionados to live vicariously through the eyes of their favourite artists, curators and collectors. Friendly collaborations with photographers, painters and sculptors have resulted in the extraordinary editorial spreads the magazine has come to be known for; art fair partnerships such as Art Stage Singapore, Affordable Art Fair, Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Bazaar Jakarta have also placed ART REPUBLIK in the spotlight as the leading platform for contemporary art in Asia. The bilingual Indonesian edition – in both English and Bahasa Indonesia – aims to highlight the booming art scene in Indonesia with around 200 pages of vivid art content.

You may be familiar with Miuccia Prada’s Prada Jewels – costume jewelry in a Wallis Simpson-style featuring crystals galore and a vintage vibe. Now, Miu Miu is also launching some equally fabulous creations in a limited, one-off collection, The Queen’s Jewels. The Queen’s Jewels collection has no obvious royal inspiration, however. Yet one thing’s for sure: for the jewelry collector who loves a good antique-style piece, this gorgeous collection includes a tiara, ring, bracelet and drop earrings.

There’s just no stopping Zaha Hadid. The world might have bid a tearful farewell to one of architecture’s most prized rebels last March but her work continues to awe and inspire. Slightly more than 2,000 kilometers away from Zaha Hadid Architects in London, in the quiet Italian city of Salerno, an oyster-like structure quietly looms over the Amalfi Coast. Today marks the opening of the new maritime terminal – Hadid’s first major project to come to completion since her untimely death from a heart attack at the age of 65. As part of a broader redevelopment of Salerno’s port area, the terminal was constructed to smooth the movement of ferries and cruise ship passengers that pass through it. Like many of her buildings, the Salerno Marine Terminal’s polished lines and sleek silhouette are sensual and intriguing. The building resembles an oyster, featuring a hard shell above a soft, fluid interior, complete with wavy lines that were Hadid’s trademark. “This extraordinary work adds to everything Salerno is doing to transform itself and I think it is marvellous,” said Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi after his visit yesterday. “We should have been able to celebrate this moment together but it was not to be,” he added. Hadid’s practice is now being run by her co-worker of 28 years, German architect Patrik Schumacher, with some 36 projects at the design stage or currently under construction. This includes a Port House in Antwerp, King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center in Riyadh and Mathematic Gallery at the Science Museum in London. Hadid used to say of her unorthodox designs: “When people see something fantastic they think that it’s not possible to achieve it in real life. But that’s not true. You can achieve amazing things.”

The past few years have witnessed many advances in case construction using materials and techniques previously unseen in the watch industry, such as NTPT carbon and Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS). Given the success of its Vanguard collection and penchant for venturing off the beaten path, it comes as no surprise that Franck Muller, too, would join the fray with a creation of its own. Enter the Vanguard Carbon Krypton. First unveiled at WPHH 2016, the Vanguard Carbon Krypton takes its inspiration – and name – from Kryptonite, a fictional material from the DC Comics universe. Usually depicted as a green glowing mineral, Kryptonite is Superman’s Achilles heel as its radiation can severely weaken the otherwise invulnerable superhero, which makes it a popular plot device for writers. Under normal lighting, the Vanguard Carbon Krypton bears little resemblance to the substance, although its dial does sport some detailing in fluorescent green. In the dark, the timepiece presents a whole other visage as specks of green Super-LumiNova, previously all but invisible, emit their characteristic glow across the case and dial. Do not expect the strong glow of a neon light though. The effect is subtler; the closest analogue is probably the glow given off by bioluminescent plankton in the ocean. With a little imagination, it’s easy to see the watch transforming into a shaped chunk of ore embedded with flecks of Kryptonite. Unfortunately, this is nearly impossible to capture accurately in a photo, and best appreciated in person. To accomplish this, Franck Muller tweaked the case production process to have Super-LumiNova particles interspersed within the carbon fibre matrix, before the resin is cured and milled into a completed case. Visual impact aside, the Vanguard Carbon Krypton maintains the winning formula that has made the Vanguard collection so popular. Its Cintrée Curvex case is a bold 44mm by 53.7mm, but remains wearable due to the lack of lugs, and houses a three-hand movement fitted with a simple date complication. A hybrid strap with a nylon-on-rubber construction and matching green stitching completes the package.

The phenomenal M2 sportscar by BMW has ramped up a huge amount of anticipation, priming car lovers for its imminent arrival. In conjunction with that, a bicycle sporting the same sleek metallic finish of the car will be released as a limited edition at 1,500 examples globally, each costing €1,400. The Cruise M is the miniature version, a toy if you will, to turn to if you would rather not shell out for a big boy’s performance toy like the M2 itself ($53,000 premium price tag – before options, before taxes). While BMW is known mostly for automobiles, they’ve also been in the bicycle business for 60 years already. This expertise shows in the construction of the Cruise M, which is made out of carbon fiber and aluminum for strength without adding weight. The bike also sits on lightweight 28-inch wheels and has a 30 gear system. The frame has been shaped so that the crossbar follows the contour of a motorbike’s fuel tank and each section of the aluminum frame has been welded to make the finished result look like it was moulded out of a single sheet of metal. Every single one built will arrive with a plaque detailing its limited edition status and which of the 1500 examples it is. Alongside this limited edition, BMW also announced their full Spring 2016 bicycle collection. They’ve added a small frame (160cm) option across their existing range of Cruise and Cruise e-bike models, as well as giving the Cruise e-bike a more potent electric assistance motor that now has a pedal-assisted top speed of 25km/h. This year marks the company’s 100th anniversary in building cars. This is a nice addition to a brand that is still at the top of its game. Also, bikes are good for you and good for the environment.

On April 23, Van Cleef & Arpels will be bringing some of its best creations to the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands. Titled Van Cleef & Arpels: The Art and Science of Gems, the exhibition will bring guests on a journey of more than 400 creations from the jeweler and 250 minerals from the French National Museum of Natural History collection. This is actually the largest ever heritage exhibition organized by the Parisian jeweler; it documents more than a century of the firm’s history. With pieces from the Maison’s archive collection, and on loan from private collectors from around the world, it blends art, craft, history and geoscience with the characteristics associated with the jeweler’s rich heritage. The exhibition will follow seven themes: couture, abstractions, influences, precious objects, nature, ballerinas and fairies as well as icons. One of the most striking pieces that will be on display is the Bird and Clip pendant that was once owned by Polish opera singer Ganna Walska. Set in gold and featuring emeralds, sapphire along with yellow and white diamonds, the flying bird is seen carrying a detachable briolette-cut yellow diamond measuring 96.62 carats.

She was the child-star who brought joy to the Depression-era movie-going audience with her performances and innocence. Despite her success at that time, it seems that her star power has not translated to into an ability to sell personal objects. Her 9.54-carat blue diamond ring went under the hammer at a Sotheby’s New York auction for an estimated $25-35 million, but failed to find a buyer. It was originally a present from her father who bought it for $7,210 back in 1940. Shirley Temple started acting at age three, and became the youngest person to win an Oscar in 1935 (aged six), with a special award for young performances that is no longer presented. She went on to star in more than 40 films, most of them before age 12. Later in her life, she followed up her career in show business by serving as a diplomat under four presidents. “The Shirley Temple Blue Diamond is an exceptional stone in quality, rarity and provenance. It has been an honor to share its story with collectors, connoisseurs and Temple’s loyal fans over the past few months… Unfortunately, tonight wasn’t its night in the salesroom, but we remain fully confident that it will find a buyer.” the auction house said. In a star-saturated media climate, with so many new names breaking out young on platforms like Youtube, the Shirley Temple phenomenon is perhaps no longer in effect. Perhaps a long nostalgic fan, brought up on a diet of silver screen icons Greta Garbo and Katharine Hepburn may want to pick up the gem in the future.

Ever since Thierry Hermes established The Hermes Fashion House in Paris in 1837, the Hermes brand has always been rather special. As a symbol of absolute luxury, Hermes started out as a harness making shop for the European elite. Serving royalty and noblemen alike, Hermes’ early customers included the likes of Napoleon III and his wife, the last ever empress of France, Eugénie de Montijo. While plenty has changed since those days, the fact still remains that owning a Hermes product is something we all aspire for. With their expertly crafted bags sometimes requiring a five-year waiting list, their demand is as high as ever. Read our guide below to find out which Hermes bag is perfect for you:

Hermes Birkin

The jewel of the Hermes crown, the Birkin bag is one of the most iconic handbags ever made. Being seen with this bag demonstrates luxurious wealth, making the demand for this bag soar, so obtaining a Hermes Birkin is notoriously difficult. The bag itself is named after legendary actress Jane Birkin who inspired its creation having spoken of a need for a leather weekend bag to Hermes’ chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas whilst on a flight to London in 1981. The Hermes Birkin is easily recognisable by its two rolled leather handles which are carried in the fold of the arm and its lock and key, with the key being enclosed in a leather holder known as a clochette.  Available in sizes ranging from 25cm to 40cm, the Birkin is wide and spacious and functions perfectly as an open tote bag, ideal for global jet-setters that want to travel in style. Such is Hermes’ dedication to quality, each Birkin bag takes an estimated 48 hours to create requiring immaculate levels of skill, precision and care by Hermes’ expert artisans.

The bag was popularised by actress Grace Kelly, who fell in love with this bag and used it to shield her pregnancy from the paparazzi in 1956. The bag was subsequently named Kelly in her honour in 1977 and exudes fine sophistication.

The Rolls-Royce Dawn’s alluring presence is undeniable. Never mind that it takes 1,500 of the industry’s most skilled technicians to build. This dynamic 4-seat convertible by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is to date, one of the most ambitious vehicles the British car manufacturer has attempted since BMW’s acquisition in 2003. So just when you thought this sleek coupe couldn’t get any better, German premium car tuning and customization firm Mansory has gone ahead and given the $380,000 car’s exterior, interior and engine bay some serious fine tuning. The nose gets a new carbon fiber front spoiler with larger air intakes, the LED running lights have been changed and the hood section completely remodeled in carbon fiber to cut weight. The car also gets side skirts and a trunk-lid spoiler. But the good people at Mansory didn’t just stop there. Under the hood, the Dawn’s original 563hp 6.6-liter V12 now produces 740hp and 1000Nm of torque (previously 780Nm), propelling the car to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 285km/h (a whopping 35km/h more than the standard car delivers). Inside, the company offers customers whatever they want in terms of precious metals, rare leathers or carbon fiber detailing, much like Rolls-Royce itself. And while purists and many luxury carmakers may frown upon the exploits of companies like Mansory, its services are very much in demand. So much so that Rolls-Royce itself has recently introduced a new ‘Black Badge’ model line which Rolls-Royce CEO Müller-Ötvös describes as “motor cars for a group of young, driven, self-made people that will make a bold and edgy lifestyle statement about their lives.”

After Rihanna, it is now Victoria Beckham who has announced the release of a full color cosmetics line—a makeup collection with Estée Lauder this fall. The brand posted a photo to Instagram of Beckham working behind-the-scenes on her color line with the hashtag #VBxEsteeLauder. “This is my opportunity to share, develop and really give back to women everywhere. And I’m very excited to be able to do that.” Beckham said in an Instagram clip. This isn’t the first time Beckham has worked with the beauty industry. She has her fair share of fragrances and a year ago partnered with British brand Nails Inc. to create a limited-edition collection of polishes. The line is the second celebrity-focused collaboration set to launch with Estée Lauder this year. The first, Estée Edit, was a skincare and color cosmetic line that the brand created with their spokeswomen Kendall Jenner and beauty blogger Irene Kim. Both new lines are seen as the cosmetic brand’s attempt at drawing in millennials and new customers.
