Nominated for Grammy’s and known for her uptown chic wardrobe, renowned British singer and songwriter Florence Welch is all set to take charge of Gucci’s watches and jewellery line as the new brand ambassador. Manufacturer of watches since the 70’s, followed by jewellery, Gucci and its Creative Director Alessandor Michele seem excited about this collaboration, considering Welch’s timeless personality and passion for what she does, a quality that evokes the spirit of Gucci, complementing the brand’s design story behind each of its creations. With songs like Cosmic Love and Ship To Wreck, and a sense of style like hers, the singer, who leads the band Florence + The Machine, is already a known figure in the pop music industry as well as the fashion circuit. In fact, she is the first celebrity to sport Gucci’s G-timeless automatic timepiece which features beautiful bees, hearts and star motifs and is one of the brand’s best horologic creations. To accentuate the beauty of the watch she also wore a bangle and a mix of rings from Gucci Jewellery’s Icon, Marché des Merveilles and Flora collections.

The hot topic of the season has been the idea of restructuring the classic Fashion Week model, and today Wes Gordon joined the ranks of designers forgoing the traditional runway. For Fall 2016, he presented his collection entirely online in a series of nine GIFs posted to his Instagram account. “It can be kind of limiting—four white walls, six minutes to tell our story,” Gordon was quoted as saying. “There are 600 shows on the calendar. As a smaller brand, it’s an opportunity to be mobile, do something different.” Rather than focusing on the spectacle of the runway, the video clips allow for the designs to take center stage. Potential customers were able to see the detail of each piece—something Gordon prides himself on—in real world scenarios. Filmed and photographed by Kat Irlin, the imagery focuses on the movement and beauty of his designs, and lets viewers see exactly who the Wes Gordon girl is. There were a number of slim-cut slip dresses, panels of sheer lace on jacket sleeves and skirt slits, as well as feminine details like ruffled collars and bow ties that were balanced with more masculine trousers and coats. A collection favorite was a drop-waist dress with a ruffled skirt done in a sheer, baby blue silk.

Platinum Club, the newest luxury addition to Australia’s The Ghan and Indian Pacific’s rail fleet, begins official service on the tracks this month. Featuring a deluxe bar, lounge and fully flexible dining area exclusive to Platinum guests, the Platinum Club marks the first major refurbishment for Great Southern Rail trains since 2008. The carriage offers a daytime lounge setting with adaptable dining options and an evening banquet layout suitable for captain’s dinners and larger group gatherings. “We have experienced a 24 per cent increase in demand for Platinum Service travel over the past two years so we are delighted to be able to enhance our premium offerings with this new social and dining space,” Great Southern Rail spokesman Steve Kernaghan said. Woods Bagot designer Jordan Schumacher, who partnered with Great Southern Rail on the refurbishment, said the new Platinum Club offered a sense of sophisticated luxury, seating 30 guests for dining and an additional 20 in the lounge area. The space boasts quartzite tabletops, timber flooring, brass fittings and leather banquette lounge seating in tones of ash, moss and sepia. The first of four Platinum Club carriages has been completed and is now in service, with the remaining carriages rolling out over coming months. Gold Service travellers on board the Indian Pacific and The Ghan will continue to enjoy the dining and social atmosphere of the Queen Adelaide Restaurant and Outback Explorer Lounge carriages.

All set for Titanic II? No, you’re not time travelling. This is, in fact, the Titanic replica that Australian billionaire Clive Palmer is creating. Back in 2012, Palmer had announced his plans to recreate the Belfast liner that sank on its maiden voyage across the North Atlantic Ocean, and set sail this year. However, the plans have now been pushed back to 2018. A little over a century after the Titanic began its journey the replica will mirror the ship —with a few modifications. To meet modern maritime safety regulations, the vessel will measure 4 m wider and the hull will be welded, not riveted. When complete, the Titanic II will measure 270 m long, 53 m high, and weigh 56,000 tons. Like its predecessor, the Titanic II will have three cabin classes. The ship will span nine floors and be able to carry 2,400 passengers. Other features will include Turkish baths, a swimming pool and gymnasium. As far as we know, Kate and Leo are not scheduled to be on it! It is important to note that as far as cruise liners go, this one is far from the largest, with gross tonnage these days clocking in at above 100,000. For the truly curious out there who may wonder if this is a coal-powered ship, given that the original boiler uptakes will be recreated, in fact it is diesel-powered. Four diesel engines power three azimuth thrusters and two bow thrusters. Instead of Southampton to New York, however, the ship’s maiden voyage will be between Jiangsu, China, where it’s being built, to Dubai. This story remains a work in progress as rumors continue to swirl around Palmer and the health of his businesses. But the key question remains, if the project is actually completed, would you book passage?

SIHH 2016 witnessed some of the most spectacular timepieces of all times, one such masterwork was Sherman, a limited edition robot-inspired watch by Swiss watchmaker MB&F, crafted in collaboration with clock-maker L’Epée, Switzerland’s only specialised high-end clock manufacturer. Just when you think ‘this is it’, master watch-makers surprise you with something better than what has been seen before, making impossible things possible. MB&F Sherman is a friendly themed robot, a younger brother to the MB&F Melchior clock released in 2015. This adorable robot was conceived and designed by MB&F and engineered and crafted by L’Epée 1839. Sherman is said to be a result of Swiss watchmaker Maximilian Büsser’s efforts to revisit his childhood during which he always wanted a robot friend. The diamond set model shows time displayed in the traditional two-hand clock-style dial. Like its brother, Sherman’s brain area has a mineral glass dome which keeps the balance wheel and its regulation system visible at all times. According to its makers, there are two things that Sherman does extremely well. First of the two is telling time; the second making people smile. Its power to bring smiles is touted as its superpower. Let’s see how much the power works on you!

Scandinavian design brand, in collaboration with Miyake Design Studio, earlier this week, presented a unique range of high end ceramics, glass and home textiles. The collaboration, which looks simple, is much more than it looks; it is the result of the teamwork of not only two masters of timeless design from two different sides of the world, but also two different fields of design industry. Unique elements from both the celebrated institutions are reflected in the range. The collection also marks Issey Miyake, the much-loved fashion house’s first venture in the interior industry with Iitala. The Iittala X Issey Miyake home collection was designed to celebrate every day. It comprises tableware, serve-ware, table linens and more. The range invites one to rejoice even in the mundane routines of domestic life with its natural colour palette and elegant shapes. The pieces in the array can be easily matched with each other as the designers have incorporated a distinct sense of harmony in the entire range. A common idea running across the complete collection is the idea of blossoming flowers, which adds emotions and boosts interaction between the product and its user.

Come February 27, Guernsey’s is holding a legendary guitar auction like never before, in what they call “the most diverse assemblage of collectible guitars ever presented”. From fine acoustic instruments made way back in the 1800s to more modern, recently made masterpieces, the over 300 lots in the sale are a truly eclectic collection. The auction, which is also available online, will go live on February 27 at New York City’s East 73rd Street Bohemian National Hall. Several private collections will be featured in the event, including over 20 from legendary jazz guitarist George Benson’s personal collection. The Henry Lowenstein Collection will also present some of the rarer mandolins and guitars made by Joseph Bohmann. The late Robert Yelin also debuts at the auction with an impressive collection of over 40 guitars, including ones by Gibson, D’Angelico, Benedetto, and Buscarino. The extremely rare and diverse collection will also feature a collector’s favorite, the lesser known (but not any less fine) Larson. Bidders can also expect to see lots of autographed-and-played guitars, including one by Richie Sambora and Eddie Van Halen. Other famous owners include Eric Clapton, Tony Mottola, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Franny Beecher. And, in an eerie turn of events, those who remember the chilling thriller In Cold Blood will be thrilled (or horrified) to know that the guitar used by Robert Blake, who plays killer Perry Smith in the Academy Award-winning film, is the exact one that belonged to the actual Perry Smith. From cold blooded murderers to late legends and current pop icons, this truly diverse assembling is definitely one to look out for. Here are some guitars waiting to be featured at the auction, including Eddie Van Halen’s 1982 black and yellow Charvel, a custom-made beauty played by Van Halen himself, a 1962 Gretsch White Falcon, and an autographed Gibson Ace Frehley Les Paul.

Not content with the Q3 that comes in a sporty RS guise, Audi’s engineers have upgraded aspects of the car, in a bid to allow it to live up to its full potential. Said to be on the smallest and fastest SUV in Audi’s growing range, the Performance edition Q3 now comes with a new fuel pump and radiator. This has allowed for an extra 27 horses, bringing the total bhp to an impressive 367.

More impressive still is that when this power is fed through a recalibrated seven-speed S tronic transmission to all four wheels it results in a 0-100km/h sprint of 4.4 seconds. That’s faster than a Porsche 911 Carrera but since this is an SUV, the better frame of reference might be the Cayene Turbo S, which it is also faster than, obviously.

And the car is not just quick off the mark; it can gallop up to a top speed of 167mph (270km/h) while other sporty Audis are electronically limited to 155mph (250km/h), and, thanks to equally impressive suspension (the car sits 20mm lower than a standard Q3), it shouldn’t rock and roll in the bends, either. Theoretically, it might just straighten those bends out.

RS sport suspension plus with damper control is also available as an option and that will let owners push the car’s parameters further still or set everything up for ultimate comfort on those days when the whole family’s traveling together. Yes this is still an SUV, believe it or not.

As well as a phenomenal turn of speed, the Performance model differentiates itself from the RS Q3 with unique 20-inch alloy wheels, matte titanium-look detailing around the grille and windows and the option of Ascari Blue as an exterior paint finish. LED front and rear running lights are also standard kit.

Inside, the seats are finished in leather and Alcantara and the dials and gauges get the sports treatment with white faces and red needles.

The RS Q3 Performance will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March but is now available for order in Europe.
