Of all things unbelievable and absurd in the world of luxury, here’s a weirdly macabre décor piece for the gothically inclined: human skull replica fireplace logs. Created with lava granules and aeronautical heat-resistant ceramics wrapped around an inner structure of steel, these 8 to 9″ high by 6.5 to 7.5″wide artifacts are indistinguishable from real human skulls. Crafted by Myard in California, USA they are available in three colours: charred black, ash white and burnt brown, and come with a limited lifetime warranty. The logs are priced at $65 each. We can understand that these would be great for a Halloween party or a horror night, but other than those, you’d need to be really into crazy horror-gothic stuff to light these on a regular basis!

Jacob & Co revealed the Astronomia Solar at Baselworld 2017, and it’s one of the most breathtaking timepieces you could have imagined. The watch showcases all eight planets in the solar system on the dial for the first time. The Sun at the center is a 1.5ct citrine with 288 facets of the patented Jacob Cut, and the hand-engraved Earth rotates about its own axis once every 60 seconds, completing one full revolution of the dial in 10 minutes, as do the subsidiary hour and minute dial and a one-minute flying tourbillon. The entire system is powered by the in-house built new JCAM19 movement, researched for and developed over the span of two whole years. A crocodile leather strap and 18-carat rose gold folding clasp complete the Astronomica Solar, and we can’t think of a more ‘heavenly’ creation among timepieces. Literally.

Owners of the Jaguar XJ220 introduced in 1992 were hit with a curious tragedy of suddenly not being able to rocket around despite possessing the fastest car created, because they couldn’t find new tyres for the super speedster. Since 12 years now, these cars have been sitting around, becase the production of new rubber for the unique-sized wheels stopped when production of the car itself ceased in 1994.But now, this vehicle with top speeds of 349.3 kilometres per hour has just been given new lease of life as , Bridgestone and Pirelli are developing new tyres for the car and get it back on the track where it belongs. So it might be just a few weeks until this speedster gets back in action—and all this to coincide with the car’s 25th anniversary. To get its tyres right, Bridgestone used a pre-production XJ220 for track tests and picked the brains of many of the engineers that helped develop the original car. Along with these, Jaguar has been working directly with Pirelli on a set of P Zero tyres for the XJ220 with a view to creating P Zeros for a number of its other classics in the future. As such, they will be the only “J-Rated” — Jaguar approved — rubber available for the XJ200.
