‘ShangHigh’ by Bo-Tai, an all new retro-Chinese restaurant in Gurgaon is a literal manifestation of its name — gives you a “high”, “Shanghai style.”
Started by Zorawar Kalra, founder of Massive Restaurants, ShangHigh is inspired by the allure of ShangHai’s historic speakeasies where the culinary haven meets high-energy bar to offer an immersive dining experience.
With the broad spectrum of dishes, from appetisers to main courses and desserts, ShangHigh’s culinary artistry ensures authentic flavours, offering something for every palate. It is interesting to see how the classic Asian meals from the old-world ShangHai, seamlessly intertwine with modern culinary innovation to offer the best fine dining experience. Every dish is crafted with care, using organic ingredients. Some of the must-have dishes include the expertly crafted Chinese-forward dishes, a diverse sushi menu (highly recommend the Avocado one), the dumplings (specially the prawns and chicken lemongrass) and mixology inspired by Chinese folklore.
The restaurant also offers an exquisite cocktail menu, inspired by the Chinese Zodiacs. Each drink is crafted using imported Chinese ingredients, bringing authentic flavors to life. The specially curated cocktail menu features creations such as “Age of Invention,” “Death of the Warlord,” “Mandate of Heaven,” and “The Great Emigration,” each representing the rich cultural heritage of Shanghai and accompanied by its own unique story. For instance, “The Age of Invention” draws inspiration from the ground-breaking inventions of the Song dynasty, while “The Mandate of Heaven” artfully blends aromatic gin with a homemade limoncello base, symbolizing the harmony between heaven and earth.
ShangHigh’s thoughtfully designed interiors evokes the essence of Shanghai while embracing modern elegance. The stunning 20-feet-high ceiling in the sunroom, red and crimson hues complemented by touches of black, and a hidden terrace area reminds of Shanghai’s historic speakeasies.
There are glamourous live performances too, happening every evening, just to elevate the vibrant atmosphere. The talented artists break into dynamic acts in the middle of the room, adding an element of surprise and excitement to the evenings.
With its unique fusion of performance dining and immersive cocktail storytelling, ShangHigh is the perfect hub for food lovers, cocktail connoisseurs, and nightlife enthusiasts alike.

Nestled in the tranquil embrace of Ranikhet, Uttarakhand, the artistic villas of Luna Nova are more than just a retreat; it’s an experience of harmony where contemporary design meets the untouched beauty of the Himalayas. For someone who is always on the move, one rarely gets to experience properties that so niche and peaceful that you are instantly transported into a zen mode without even making any extra effort.
On an early winter morning, we embarked on a road trip from Delhi to leave the poor AQI behind and enjoy the bliss of the hills. As we crossed the serpentine routes and pine-scented pathways to enter the dense coniferous forests, it became evident that our destination was not just a fancy location to check-in for social media but a journey with an immersive experience to explore inner peace, creativity, and reconnect with nature.
A dream brought to life
The Luna Nova villas are one of the newly launched luxury staycations by StayVista, and it caters to discerning travellers who seek luxury and exclusivity. The curated holiday villas effortlessly blend art, architecture, and the simplicity of slow living into one holistic experience that will fill you with gratitude. In today’s day and age, true luxury lies not in extravagance but in the moments of quiet connection we so often miss in our hurried lives.
With their unique structures it’s easy to identify these pods from a distance, and they standout as “otherworldly” homes perched on top of hills surrounded by lush pines, spruces, firs, junipers, cedars, and cypress trees. The origins of Luna Nova are as enchanting as the experience itself. Created by three friends with a shared love for starry skies, this property was conceived as their ultimate sanctuary—a place that would celebrate the heavens above and the natural beauty below. From the moment we arrived, we could feel the mindful approach and labor of love that went behind creating these hilly homes. Built from a mix of glass and white concrete, the villas features three architecturally unique pods, each inspired by nature’s own geometry. The hexagonal, pentagonal, and triangular shaped villas are called Europa, Callisto and Demios, and are named after various planetary moons of our solar system. The exteriors lend the property a futuristic charm, while the interiors nod to the rustic yet luxurious mountain lifestyle.
The luxury of experiences
The trio villas encapsulate very unique design ethos by offering a host of curated experiences to align your inner energies and recharge your mind and soul. Perhaps, the property’s crown jewel is its unspoiled view of the night sky. Equipped with telescopes and an atmosphere free from urban light pollution, Luna Nova provides an unmatched opportunity to explore the cosmos. After the sunset, the three villas glow with a surreal beauty and one can stay out to enjoy the magical stargazing and nocturnal cosmos from the hilltop. For those who like to indulge more, imagine soaking in a jacuzzi with uninterrupted views of the snow-capped peaks in the morning or evening to unwind, especially as the sun dips below the horizon.
For the sunrise and sunset lovers, the 360-degree panoramic views are simply breathtaking. Every sunrise and sunset is an artwork in itself, casting hues of gold and pink across the mountains. One can also venture on a short drive from the property to the serene banks of Ram Ganga River, where local guides organize picnics or treks for an invigorating nature trail.
A culinary delight
The in-house chef deserves special mention for crafting meals that span a delightful range of cuisines. Whether it was authentic Kumaoni dishes that celebrated local flavors, or perfectly executed Chinese and Continental meals, every bite was a treat. Dining at Luna Nova is not merely a necessity but an event, often accompanied by the scent of fresh mountain air and the warmth of a crackling bonfire. And, as the pace of life slows down, the experience allows you to savor the small joys like picking fresh produce from the organic garden, flipping through a novel in a sunlit corner, or playing board games with your loved ones. It’s also a space that embraces both work and play, with facilities that cater to remote work while still letting you soak in the surroundings. For those traveling with pets, Luna Nova’s pet-friendly environment is an added bonus.
How to reach
The Luna Nova villas are 53 kilometers from the famous Jim Corbett National Park and 250 km from Delhi, and a road trip is highly recommended to reach there. The nearest railway station is Ramnagar Railway station (approx 66 km) and Kashipur Bus Stand is 92 km from where you can book a taxi to drive down.

Call it the design haven. Call it the architectural marvel. The Jetwing lighthouse Galle is beyond an adjective. A marvelous artistic expression, right on the banks of Indian Ocean. This property is a living manifestation of tropical modern architecture. A property that lives and breathes and has a character of its own. It won’t be an exaggeration to describe this masterpiece by legendary architect Geoffrey Bawa as the hottest destination in Srilanka.
You feel to have been transported to a place that is an iconic reflection of light, space and art. The long endless corridors, expansive open spaces inter wine with earthy rustic hues creating the most magnificent scenes. One of the last greatest works of design by Bawa and also built under his personal supervision, it boasts his trademark touches of saffron, brass and bronze. The wide open spaces graciously connect to the sprawling outdoors.
The Fa-Hsien Suite.
Located just beyond the city limits, Jetwing Lighthouse is easily accessible from all parts of the tropical isle. From the capital city of Colombo, you can reach the hotel via the scenic coastal drive of 3-4 hours along the road that runs right outside the property.
One of the most iconic Galle hotels, Jetwing Lighthouse rests atop a beautiful hillock overlooking the vast Indian Ocean, at the edge of Southern coast of Srilanka. It is serene to see the wave’s crash over giant boulders in front of the hotel.
Hotels heritage interiors are a luxurious blend of ancient, tropical and modernist influences – like the staircase depicting a historic Dutch & Sinhalese battle in 1905 by Bawa’s friend and late artist Laki Senanayake. His life –sized dramatic brass characters curl up two floors of stairs to evoke the rich, local stories of the land.
Accommodation that brings in the outdoors
Sprawled over 7 acres of tropical heritage luxury, the hotel features 85 light filled, spacious rooms and themed suites that come with a personalised butler service and features Bawa’s signature tropical modern aesthetic.
The Spilbergen Suite.
Each suite is a doorway into another time and place, creating a unique ambience on its own. For instance, the Fa-Hsien Suite pays tribute to imperial China, the Ibn-Batuta Suite resembles the vibrant Morocco, and the Spilbergen Suite carries on the legacy of Dutch heritage in our southern capital.
The Fa-Hsien suite.
The other Superior Suites — the Maharaja Suite, features design influences that resemble a regal India while the John Davy Suite, resembles the grandeur of an old English manor.
Experiences for the soul
Jetwing Lighthouse’s strategic location serves as a perfect base to explore the southern region of the island. The resort is in close proximity to several tourist attractions like Galle’s 17th century fort (home to restaurants, boutiques and cafes), Galle International Cricket Stadium and Galle Fort National Museum, making it the ideal spot to explore the city of Galle.
Guests can indulge in many local activities like rainforest trek or learn about the renowned cinnamon cultivation in the region, or even take a boat with the resident naturalist and say hello to the blue whales and dolphins, known to make their home in the Srilankan seas.
The resort also features an excellent Ayurveda and wellness Spa – not just for adults but kids as well – that offers a range of curated signature treatments to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul.
A culinary sojourn
Jetwing Lighhouse masterfully crafts exquisite dining experiences. You can enjoy private dinners with candlelit tables for a perfect date night on the beach with your own chef and server or indulge in a champagne breakfast overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Cardamom Café at Jetwing Lighthouse.
The resort also features an exquisite selection of fine dining spaces. A meal at Nihal’s, named after its world –renowned executive chef, Nihal Senanayake, at Jetwing is something one can’t miss. The chef has carefully crafted each dish to lend a global appeal with a signature Sri Lankan touch.
This gastronomic experience is enhanced by selection of a range of cocktails and mocktails and everything in between with its old world bar – the Coats of Arms Bar , a nostalgic old-world space with rustic charms to keep the spirits high all the while you stay here.

Vintage cars have a unique charm that transcends mere transportation, transporting us back in time to an era of elegance and craftsmanship. Collecting these timeless vehicles is more than just a hobby; it’s a passion that preserves the history and heritage of automotive excellence. Each vintage car tells a story of a bygone era, evoking nostalgia and a sense of adventure. Enthusiasts revel in the beauty of these classic machines, which offer a tangible link to the past and a celebration of engineering artistry.
Just last month, this passion for vintage cars was on full display during a rally organized by the Heritage Motoring Club of India (HMCI). The event, which traced a picturesque route from Delhi to Karnal, culminated at the stunning Noor Mahal. Often hailed as the “Grandest Palace on the Road from Delhi to Lahore,” Noor Mahal provided a fitting backdrop for the vintage car enthusiasts, blending automotive and architectural grandeur.
Flagging off from Saket, a convoy of meticulously preserved vintage vehicles, including iconic classic cars, embarked on a journey filled with nostalgia and excitement. This rally was more than a mere motoring event; it was a cultural odyssey through India’s regal history. As the cars traversed scenic landscapes, participants experienced a time-travel between eras, where the elegance of vintage automobiles met the splendor of India’s royal heritage.
The arrival at Noor Mahal was nothing short of magical. The palace, a magnificent blend of Mughal and Rajputana architecture, is more than a hotel; it’s a living museum of India’s opulent past. The grand entrance, intricate jharokhas (balconies), regal domes, and detailed carvings immediately transport visitors to the age of kings and emperors. The carefully curated artifacts and sculptures, many sourced from other royal palaces across India, make Noor Mahal a treasure trove of historical luxury.
No two rooms at Noor Mahal are alike, each telling its own unique story through distinct designs, color palettes, and selections of artifacts. Guests feel as if they are staying within a piece of Indian history, surrounded by the grandeur of a bygone era. From ornate tapestries to antique furnishings, the palace offers a deeply immersive royal experience. Complementing this ambiance is the culinary experience, featuring exquisite royal dishes that pamper the taste buds and complete the luxury stay.
A special highlight of Noor Mahal is the “Jagjit Singh Suite,” dedicated to the legendary Indian composer and singer, Mr. Jagjit Singh. This suite, preserved as it was during his last visit, serves as a tribute to his musical genius and attracts fans and admirers who wish to experience a space that reflects his soul and artistry.
The HMCI vintage rally couldn’t have chosen a better destination. The sight of vintage cars parked against the majestic façade of Noor Mahal created a perfect juxtaposition of timeless elegance. What began as a journey celebrating classic cars concluded with a profound appreciation for India’s regal past, brilliantly showcased by Noor Mahal.
For those with a love for history, luxury, and motoring, the combination of Noor Mahal Palace and HMCI’s dedication to preserving automotive heritage offers an unparalleled experience.
